CTS & Complementary Courses

Summit CTS Courses

Welcome to our Online Career and Technology Studies (CTS) courses, tailored for students across Alberta. In this digital era, we're excited to offer a flexible and comprehensive approach to learning that caters to the diverse needs and schedules of our students. Our CTS courses are designed to provide students with the practical skills and knowledge required to excel in various career paths, leveraging the convenience and accessibility of online education.

Course Structure: Our offerings include a mix of asynchronous and live sessions. This means that while most of our courses are structured to allow students to learn at their own pace—accessing materials, completing assignments, and engaging in course activities without the need for real-time interaction—certain courses, like Foods, incorporate live, interactive sessions. These sessions are designed to provide real-time support and engagement, bringing the classroom experience into your home.

Asynchronous Learning: For our asynchronous courses, students will navigate through a series of modules at their own pace, with access to a wealth of resources and support from our dedicated instructors. This approach allows for flexibility, enabling students to balance their education with other commitments.

Live Sessions: Courses that include live sessions offer students a unique opportunity to engage directly with instructors and peers, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. These sessions are scheduled at convenient times, ensuring all students can participate. Often, the teacher will ask students to turn on their cameras so they can see them cooking or doing art, etc.

Student Responsibilities: Students are expected to provide their own resources for certain courses, particularly those with a practical component. For example, students enrolled in our Foods course will need to ensure they have access to the necessary ingredients and kitchen equipment to participate in live cooking demonstrations and assignments.

Support and Resources: We are committed to supporting our students every step of the way. Our platform includes access to various resources, including instructional videos, reading materials, and forums for discussion with peers and instructors. Additionally, our support team is always available to assist with any technical issues or questions about the coursework.

Our Online CTS courses offer a dynamic and engaging way to learn new skills, prepare for future careers, and achieve educational goals. We invite students across Alberta to explore our course offerings and embark on a journey of discovery and growth with us.

School Work Coming to Life!

There are three psychology courses:  general, personal and abnormal psychology.  General psychology aims to provide you with a general background in psychology, including the history of psychology and the principles of learning and thinking. You will learn about stress and aggression, the influence of small groups, the status of roles, and some insights regarding neurosis and psychosis.   In personal psychology, you will learn about different perspectives and gain an understanding of things that influence your personality.  You will learn about behaviour and development, biological influences, perception, heredity, intelligence and communication.  Abnormal psychology is designed to provide an overview of abnormal behaviour and the conditions that affect individuals in our society. You will learn about views of abnormality, causal factors, and types of disorders, as well as assessment, prevention, and treatment. When you have completed the course, you should have a basic understanding of the major concepts in abnormal psychology and the complicated nature of psychological illness.

In these courses, you will complete open-book quizzes, journal entries, projects and a final review assignment.

In addition to our core offerings, we are proud to present a selection of Health Services Studies (HSS) courses. These courses are designed not only to promote healthy living but also to serve as a foundational stepping stone for students aspiring to enter the healthcare field. Offered asynchronously, these courses provide flexible access, allowing students to engage with the material at their own pace. We strongly encourage students to explore the HSS courses detailed in our course descriptions for a deeper understanding of how they can complement your educational and career goals.
