Summit Life

The Summit Life and More

"What is the Summit Life?" The Summit Life is a unique experience that can vary from student to student. For some, it may involve attending online classes, working part-time, and completing asynchronous courses, all in pursuit of a successful future. Our school is proud of its vibrant community and encourages students to get involved as much as possible. We believe in the gradual release of responsibility, and we understand that every student has different needs and preferences. If a student wants to excel in their courses, we provide them with the resources they need to succeed. If they want to connect with other students, we make sure to facilitate those connections. And if they prefer to remain anonymous, we respect their privacy while still reaching out and trying to involve them in the community. While online learning may not be for everyone, we believe that any student should have the opportunity to experience it as part of their education.

Please see the links in the navigation for important student life information. And please see the testimonials below on what students and parents tell us about our school. We know we are not perfect, but we strive to support students in well-being, respect, and engagement

"Ms. Bell's class is unbeatable!  It's so interactive, and that's what we need to keep us engaged.  She's always doing things that get us involved like jam boards and discussions and asks us for input and stuff like that so that we're always active and we never get bored.""And that principal dude seems cool.  What's his name again?  Mr. Smith?" - Student 2024

"I do just want to say (reiterate, more like) that I really appreciate(d) having you as my teacher all these years, along with my other teachers. I feel like I struck gold with online school and I consider myself very lucky to be part of this." - Student 2024

What do students think is going well?

  • “It's been good so far :) I've really enjoyed more flexibility and less structure so I have time to do other things!”
  • “I have learned it is better for me for many reasons, one big one being the access to support, as in person I was never seen as a kid who needed help because I had decent grades and wasn't as "bad" as other kids”
  • “I enjoy it better. I like working in a quiet environment without the distraction of a busy classroom.”
  • “I met amazing friends through this course. I’m very happy and I’m so glad i chose to do online because of this :)”
  • “I will say online is easier for me because it helps me stay organized and to complete my assignments and stay ahead. I've had the best marks since attending online.”
  • “Thank you! …all the teachers have made an impact on my life and I will miss every single one of you as well, I was really glad to be a part of Summit!”
  • "Ms. Morton deserves a raise!  She's not just an English teacher, she is really there for students if they need to talk."

"Thank you so much for meeting with us today. We really appreciate your support and understanding. It’s been such a long and difficult journey, and the push to get to the finish line. This program has been so amazing in truly ‘seeing’ our daughter and valuing her as a person, not just a student."

"I just wanted to express our appreciation for the wonderful Grad ceremony you all put on last evening. It was beautifully done and the many extra touches made our graduate feel extra special. Thank you for all you do."

" I can't thank you enough for being there for my child.  We thought this was our last hope for school, only to find, this was the best decision all along."

"You are doing something different at your school.  We know you are doing things differently than most schools.  This school is the way it should be done.  Thank you for being a leader in this way..."

"My child needed to be away to heal, and because of your staff and the classes, they are ready to go back into their community school.  I can't thank you enough for this help."

"We thought the classes would be easier, but they are not.  They are every bit as rigorous as my other son's class in their home school.  These grade 12 courses are tough.  Thank you for your support as we help my kiddo through."

"My child is hockey, and I appreciate how flexible you have been with his schedule, thank you."

"I can't thank you enough for what your staff has done for my daughter.  She needs to still decide she wants success, but it is not because the school has not been supportive.  I really appreciate all the communication and what your teachers are doing."

"I wanted to reach out and thank-you for your support of my son in Semester 1, he would not have received the mark he did without you being an outstanding and supportive teacher. He was thrilled with his mark, I am thrilled with his success.  He is looking forward to continuing with you as his teacher in Semester 2. As you are aware his mental health struggles impact all aspects of his life at times, having a consistent teacher makes a big difference for both of us." - Parent

"I want to say a huge thank-you for all you did emotionally and academically for my son in Semester 1.  I can not even begin to describe my gratitude.  He is disappointed he will not have you this semester, you made a huge difference." - Parent

"Thank you all so much for being so engaged and helpful for my child. It means the world to me!" - Parent

"Your staff continue to impress and we are so grateful to have been a part of this community." - Parent
