Learning

What can you expect from online school?

Below are some tips for success and understanding how online school operates.

  • Create your own schedule, When do you wake up? when do you take breaks? When will you work on your assignments?
  • Synchronous sessions are mandatory. Strive to prepare yourself before you enter the class. Just because you're online does not mean you aren't prepared for people to see you. Change your clothes, complete your morning routine for cleanliness, and have breakfast so your brain is fed.
  • Your teachers will provide you with assignment timelines. Keep to those timelines and don't fall behind if you can help it. As the year progresses you want to manage your time so that you don't become overwhelmed in your workload.
  • Be on time for class, your teacher is taking attendance.
  • Keep your computer up-to-date. You will find it frustrating when you're not able to complete the work that you need to do in the middle of a class because your computer is not up-to-date.
  • All class reading material is located online.  We do not provide physical textbooks.
  • If you're struggling in a course, or do you need direction, or you are simply not sure of what to do, please reach out to your Connect teacher. You can also reach out to the guidance counsellor Christiana Van Ysselsteyn and/or the Learning Support teacher (Vesper Loewen) for support.
  • Are you interested in getting involved? Possibly create a club? Let your Connect teacher know so that they can work with you.

Land Acknowledgment

Rocky View Schools would like to acknowledge the land and recognize all the Indigenous Peoples whose footprints have marked these lands from time immemorial. Together, we can learn and honour the Ways of Knowing of Indigenous Peoples for all future generations.
