Summit 2025!
March 5
A Wellness Summit allows students to hear topics of interest and interact with speakers. In years past, these events assisted students in learning about wellness and how to apply mindful practices, empathy and thankfulness in their daily lives.
The sessions are led by individuals who regularly work with youth, including those from Headstrong, the RCMP, Youth Advocates, and our RVS team. Today, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sessions. We are confident that you will leave this day feeling refreshed. Our student leadership group chose the topics for the sessions, and there will be 10 to 15 different sessions available for students to attend.
Topics such as:
- Understanding Anxiety
- Imposter Syndrome
- SettingYourSelf Up For Success
- Healthy Boundaries
- Life Stories
- Mental Health
- Supporting Other with Mental Illness
- Substance Use and Mental Health
- Neuroscience!
and more!!!
History of Wellness Summit
This marks our fourth year of offering an online venue for students to learn about and reflect on their health. The purpose of the summit is to encourage students to think about their current lives, habits, and overall well-being. The sessions focus on building resiliency and learning through lived experiences to foster empathy.
Over the years, we have welcomed students from all over Alberta, primarily online students, to participate in sessions dedicated to their wellness. Some sessions are interactive, while others are presentation-based, utilizing Zoom to allow students to provide reactions and text responses. Each session lasts for 60 minutes and concludes with an evaluation of the presenter.
The topics of the presentations are clearly labeled, so students know what to expect. Some subjects may be sensitive in nature, and the level of maturity required can vary. For example, discussing depression on an introductory level is not the same as addressing the destructive effects of depression and ways to overcome them. Each student is encouraged to choose the session that best suits their needs.
Some sessions focus on practical strategies, such as overcoming procrastination or understanding ADHD and its benefits. The goal is for students to select spaces that align with their current experiences and preferences.
We believe that youth need two main elements to develop resiliency: first, a positive and loving relationship in their lives, where they can find security and support; and second, the skills of resiliency, which involve understanding the nuances of neuroscience, human behavior, and the impacts of habit formation.
Summit Trails Online High School, part of Rocky View Schools, organizes this event. Students, teachers, and adult volunteers attend each session as moderators. We have observed that students appreciate and benefit from participating in the summit. This event aligns with our Monthly Wellness Sessions, which cover various topics for youth. Throughout the year, online students can learn and reflect, culminating in the summit.
