Respondus - Exam System for Enhanced Test Integrity

This semester, some of our teachers will be piloting an exam system called Respondus. This platform is already used by Alberta Education for diploma exams and can also enhance the security and integrity of regular assessments. 

Integrating Respondus into our system helps ensure that exams remain secure, authentic, and uphold the highest standards of academic integrity. The system operates within our Moodle platform, meaning all exam data remains on our servers. To facilitate student identification, Respondus will link each student's name and email to their evaluation, with all data stored securely on Canadian servers. 

Not all tests will require Respondus. Many assessments, such as open-book or formative tests, will continue as usual. However, for summative exams, Respondus will be the primary tool used. 

Students will continue to take their exams through Moodle as usual, but once a test begins, the browser will be locked while they complete the exam. In some courses, Zoom may also be required, allowing students to take exams from home while ensuring a fair testing environment. 

Before using Respondus, students will be prompted to download a simple patch to activate the system. 

We are excited to introduce this tool to our school community. Some teachers will begin implementing it shortly.
